Is nothing sacred? March 31, 2006

People live and blog by the results they find in Technorati. I sincerely hope that the newly discovered fact that Technorati indexes myspace blogs turns out to be nothing more than an elaborate April Fool's joke. As a participant in both the blogosphere and Myspace, I strongly believe that any cross-contamination of the two should be avoided.

IM Revolution (?) March 18, 2006

Spotted in AtariBoy

AtariBoy wants to ditch MSN and convert to a more pure Gtalk existence. While I do applaud him for his earnest Google fanboy-ism, I can’t help but point out the flawed analogy that he uses to help justify his decision.

“I like to think of this as a mini verison of the battle Apple and to some extent Linux (half of the linux community dont want n00bs using linux) are going through to try and switch people from using Windows.”

I think that the real “linux of IM” would have to be Jabber, and not just Google’s limited take on the XMPP protocol. Also thanks to software like Gaim and websites like Meebo, maintaining multiple IM accounts is far easier than booting dual operating systems. I’m surprised that everyone doesn’t do that; the situation really shows the mind-numbing results of bundling.

–unrelated note– Expect this blog to be moving to kennethjr.info soon; the WordPress.com server has been really wacked of late.

Myspace Experiment March 16, 2006

Myspace bulletins are the new email forwards (Fwds 2.0 if you need a catchphrase). The significant improvement is that the re-posting of a Myspace bulletin to every contact in a profile takes far less time and worry than forwarding a chain letter to your email contact list. This is primarily because while the content within a bulletin is often offensive and/or moronic, the method used to deliver that content never is. By allowing (by default or design) a separate area for chain messages, Myspace can allow anyone to send silly messages to everyone, with minimal annoyance to those who aren't the least bit interested.

My experiment: Can the viral bulletins of Myspace be used to inflate my blog traffic?
I'll be posting my bulletin from my account [http://myspace.com/warofwrath] of 30 (actual) friends.

Title: Been putting something off???Body: write down -one- thing that you absolutely -must- do in the next 48 hours and repost this bulletin so that others can remind you

(I'll start)

1. post a blog entry at www.linkage.wordpress.com – Kenneth

A little "good news, bad news" for all of you digg fans out there (myself included) :

"There will always be a new Flickr, a new Craig's List, a new YouTube, and a new Digg….

…But, as Kevin probably understands, unless these cloned sites can generate attention and community, they're so much ghost towns in the ether."

I’ve recently discovered a new function for del.icio.us tags: link-sending. If you want to send me an interesting site just include the tag for:kchood (no spaces) and I’ll receive it directly.

Also newly discovered (after 9 months using del.icio.us), is the well organized help index. ;)
